Golf Inc - April 2008 - (Page 13) Development Recap U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS Hotel-conference center planned in St. Croix Wyndham Hotels has been selected to operate a new $250 million, 400-room hotel-casino and golf resort on the island of St. Croix. Groundbreaking is scheduled this spring on the Wyndham St. Croix Golf Resort and Casino, to be developed by New Jersey-based Golden Resorts LP and jointly owned by Jericho All-Weather Opportunity Fund of Boca Raton, Fla. It will include an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature course, 25,000-square-footcasino, spa and fitness center, four restaurants, lounges, retail stores and a children’s club. PERU Punta Sal. The project will include a 500-room hotel and convention center, residential villas and a golf course. Work will begin later this year, with completion anticipated by 2010. The resort will carry the Decameron name. It is one of four hotel projects totaling $65 million that the joint venture is launching in Peru this year. CANADA several homes in the first phase of 184 lots. In addition to golf, the project will include a clubhouse with restaurant and lounge and a retail element outside the entrance. The course is a 6,100-yard, par-70 layout designed by a local architectural firm, Newis Wilson Design. ST. KITTS Fazio to design course at Christophe Harbour Tom Fazio, one of the world’s top golf architects, has been chosen to design a new 18-hole course at Christophe Harbour, a luxury resort project on this Caribbean island. Construction on the master-planned development will begin in 2010. It is being spearheaded by Kiawah Development Partners in conjunction with Auberge Resorts and Mandarin Hotel Group. Christophe Harbour will cover a 2,500-acre site on the island’s southeastern peninsula and also will include a yacht harbor, two five-star hotels, oceanfront home sites and luxury villas. Development under way for Lakes at Muirfield Work is under way on The Lakes at Muirfield, a gated community near Calgary that will include 700 singlefamily homes and an 18-hole golf course. Developers of the project include Rick Borsuk, president of Vancouver-based Sunwest Enterprises, and Jimmy Souza, principal of Jaric Developments in White Rock, B.C. Borsuk has been involved in several golf projects, including Cimarron Golf Resort in Palm Springs, Calif. Construction is nearing completion on $65 million for projects to include golf resort Blue Marlin, a joint venture formed by the Decameron Hotels chain and the Peruvian company Nuevo Mundo, are planning a seaside hotel-golf complex at THE WANDERERS CLUB in Wellington, Fla., reopened in late February after a major renovation by Jacobsen Hardy Golf Design. The work included an expansion of waste bunkers, a new irrigation system and replanted fairways, roughs, greens and tees. Formerly called Wellington Golf & Country Club, The Wanderers is located in Florida’s horse country and in keeping with that theme, Jacobsen Hardy incorporated a polo field into the design.
