Golf Inc - April 2008 - (Page 14) Development Recap HUNGARY BULGARIA Joint venture project Includes 27-hole course A joint venture between a Swedish course design firm and a Hungarian developer will include a 27-hole golf course near Lake Velencei in western Hungary. The resort will include 27 hectares of park and recreation area. Another 17 hectares will be used for the site of 115 residential villas. The developer is Hungarian Golf Development, a union made up of Hungarian real estate firm Roll’ing Kft and Tommie Tumba Golf Design of Sweden. Long-term plans call for a 120-room hotel and 100 apartments to be built at the location. The first phase of 30 homes already has been sold. The initial nine holes of the course should be completed by this fall, with the next 18 ready for play by fall 2009. Government-backed firm to push golf development Looking to make Bulgaria a world-class destination for golf tourism, the country’s government has created a company to promote golf course development in the Eastern European nation. The company, called JSC, will be responsible for supervising construction and operation of all golf courses and related infrastructure linked to them. Of f icials already have targeted 12 different regions in the country as potential resort sites. EGYPT developing the project. In addition to golf, it will include 4,000 hotel rooms, a mall and an entertainment complex. Another major resort, backed by Middle Eastern developer Emaar Properties PJSC, is planned in the same area. The developments will be designed to compete with Egyptian resorts along the Red Sea. MOZAMBIQUE Dubai World backs luxury project Dubai World Africa, a division of the state-owned Dubai World development firm, is the primary investor in a (US)$200 million luxury beach resort project planned near Maputo. The Bilene Hotel project will include a golf course and cover about 1,000 hectares in a popular vacation resort area that encompasses the 18-kilometer Sao Martinho Lagoon nature reserve. Plans also call for the resort to have its own airport, Bilene Praia. Entrepreneur plans to build seaside resort A (US)$500 million golf resort will be built on the Mediterranean coast near the World War II battlefield of El-Alamein. Kato Group, a company owned by Egyptian billionaire Ibrahim Kamel, is RUSSIA Work is expected to be completed later this year on a course at Forest Hills Golf Club, the centerpiece to Russia’s first resort-hotel development. Designed by Arthur Hills-Steve Forrest & Associates, the golf course is part of a $200 million project developed by the Protcion Co.
