Golf Inc - April 2008 - (Page 15) Development Recap ANGKOR Cambodia’s newest luxury golf development is Angkor Golf Resort, located in Siem Reap, near the famous Angkor Wat temples. The 18-hole Faldo Design course includes a clubhouse and driving range. A hotel-spa and convention center also are part of the complex, spearheaded by Indonesian developer Tony Tandijono. The project is designed to tap into the fast-growing Cambodian tourist market. The country is a becoming a popular destination for visitors from other Asian nations, especially South Korea. TURKEY Golfplan to design resort course A spring 2009 opening is planned for a new 18-hole course in the resort town of Bodrum. Designed by Golfplan-Fream, Dale & Ramsey, the site is being developed by Agaoglu, an Istanbul-based builder of high-rise apartments and office buildings. It is Agaoglu’s first golf project. It also is Golfplan’s first design in Turkey, though the firm has been involved in projects in 25 other countries. The as-yet-unnamed resort will include a large hotel and 4,000 villas aimed at affluent Turkish citizens and a growing number of German and British tourists. CHINA The 18-hole course is located on the 300-square-kilometer Dianchi Lake, one of China’s largest lakes, and offers scenic view of Xishan Mountain, which has significant cultural importance in Chinese history. Faldo said the course was designed to fit the gently rolling landscape and includes many small lakes as water hazards. VIETNAM Daewon Cantavil, a South Korean firm. Its first phase will include 400 apartment units that will be ready by 2009. The rest of the facilities will be built over a 10-year period. The $54 million golf course complex in Quang Nam will be aimed at attracting additional tourists to the fast-growing region. Golf Indochina Hoi An is the developer of the project. INDIA Urban, resort projects to include golf courses Two more major developments are under construction in this Southeast Asian country, in Da Nang and in the central Quang Nam province. One of the largest foreign-investment projects ever built in the port city of DaNang will include an 18-hole golf course, cruise ship harbor, hotels and convention center. Also planned are a 60-story office building, retail space, luxury villas and 8,500 apartments. The $250 million Da Phuoc International Urban Project is being managed by April 2008 www.GolfIncMagazine.com 15 Businessman plans luxury hotel projects Five luxury hospitality properties are being planned in southern India by Café Coffee Day Hotels and Resorts. All of the relatively small-scale developments will carry the name The Serai — a Persian word that means a place for the accommodation of travelers. The largest of the projects, a 100-room facility to be built near Saklesehpur, will include an 18-hole golf course. Café Coffee Day Hotels and Resorts is the hospitality arm of a company owned by coffee entrepreneur V.G. Siddhartha.
