Golf Inc - April 2008 - (Page 18) Reynolds Plantation attracts 145,000 rounds of golf each year to its five courses A Georgia success story OPERATIONS COMPANY PROFILE Reynolds Plantation defies market slump to sell up to 250 lots a year “The emphasis here has always been fixed on nature and preservation first and then on creating a housing and golf community that keeps it all intact,” said Bob Mauragas, vice president of golf operations. “We’ve never wavered from that.” Even as golf and real estate markets slump throughout the country, Reynolds Plantation continues to thrive. Featuring 99 holes of golf surrounded by 1,400 custom homes and a Ritz Carlton Resort, the 14,000-acre lakefront community is a development by Linger Longer Communities, whose principals, cousins Mercer and Jamie Reynolds, formed the company in 1985 with a vision to preserve and develop their family’s land. At a time when most developers are struggling to sell two homes per month, Mauragas projects an additional 150 to 250 custom home lot sales in 2008. “This development has an element where it doesn’t really matter what the state of the market is,” said Mauragas. A big reason Reynolds Plantation continues to record sales is the extraordinary number of buyers who come to the property through referrals by existing members. T he individuals behind Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga., have never let the state of the golf and real estate markets get in the way of their vision. That, they believe, is why it hasn’t gotten in the way of their sales either.
