Golf Inc - August 2008 - (Page 12) Development Recap UNITED STATES CANADA Norman-brand homesites offered in Idaho project Southern Cross Developments, the real estate development and partnership subsidiary of Greg Norman’s Great White Shark Enterprises, will launch its newest residential project, Norman Ranch Estates, at the River Rim Ranch in Teton Valley, Idaho. Norman Ranch Estates will consist of 45 homesites within the larger resort and residential development that features a Norman Signature golf course, Teton Rim Club. It will be the only Norman Estates project in North America, though Southern Cross plans to expand its scope into Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, the Caribbean and Mexico. The Norman Estates homesites at River Rim Ranch will range in size from five to 13 acres. River Rim Ranch is being developed by Potter Clinton Development Inc. New golf community project launched Genstar Development has a new residential community development in the works in Calgary that will include an 18-hole golf course and a shorter sixhole layout. Chaparral Valley will be build on 61 hectares near Lake Chaparral, one of the company’s earlier communities. The current site had been sold to Pacific Investments and Development Ltd. six years ago, but Genstar had re-purchased the property in 2006. The project will include 510 detached homes and 90 duplexes. Two sites are set aside for another 200 units built as multi-family housing. A bike pedestrian trail system also will be designed for the project. The 18-hole course, called Blue Devil, is designed by architect Gary Browning and is being built by Evans Golf Construction. It is expected to be open for play in 2009. CUBA UK developer plans joint venture project Havana Holdings, a British developer of leisure properties, has formed a joint venture with the Cuban government to develop a series of hotels and golf resorts in the Caribbean country. Carbonera Country Club will be the first project from the new alliance. It will include a high-end hotel, restaurants, 800 apartments and 100 villas, plus an 18-hole golf course. Esencia Hotels and Resorts, a subsidiary of Havana Holdings, will operate the club, which will cost about €350 million to build. PGA Design Consulting will design the course. Four additional resort sites have been identified in Cuba. The project is part of an effort by the Cuban government to attract foreign investment as well as affluent tourists through golf. The first hotel built under the agreement is expected to open next spring. CANADA This view shows the 18th green at British Columbia’s newest course, The Golf Club at The Rise, a Fred Couples Signature course, that opened in June. Located near Vernon on the shores of Lake Okanagan, the course is the latest addition to The Rise, a yearround resort that includes a beach club and winery. Couples collaborated with architect Gene Bates on the design for the course, which was developed by Okanagan Hills Development Corp. Contractor for the project was BMR Golf. The resort is located on 735 acres and includes home sites and villas, a hotel and village-style retail. 12 Golf Inc.
