But a new survey by Golf Inc. shows the people who make their living in the golf business remain hopeful about what’s ahead for the remainder of 2008 and 2009. By Jim Dunlap stat indu The gasoline golfers need to drive to the course may be well over $4 a gallon in the U.S., housing values may be dropping like a Tiger Woods six-footer and stock portfolios may be distinctly bearish, but people involved in the golf industry still are optimistic about what’s ahead for the rest of 2008 and 2009. Golf Inc. in June surveyed leaders in the golf industry to determine the current state of the industry and how they viewed their own business prospects, both short- and long-term. The almost 500 respondents included facility operators, builder/developers, management company executives, vendors and others directly involved in the business of golf. What we found was a sunnier outlook than might be expected, given the flood of bad news in recent months from Wall Street and other world financial centers. Forty-eight percent of facility operators expect their 2008 revenues to increase slightly over 2007 levels, with another 7 percent anticipating significant increases.
