Golf Inc. - October 2008 - (Page 31) ADVERTORIAL Troon Golf Introduces Environmental Management Initiative Positions Company as the Industry Leader in Environmental Stewardship Since the company was founded in 1990, Troon Golf® has built a solid reputation on delivering superior course conditions at its facilities. Troon Golf’s agronomy team is working diligently to offer immaculate fairways and putting surfaces at more than 200 courses around the world. While creating quality course conditions remains a major priority for Troon Golf, making these courses look green is not enough. The responsibility to ensure its golf courses act green is something the company is taking just as seriously. Troon Golf is working to create sustainable golf courses that operate with the environment in mind. In fact, it recently launched the Troon Golf Environmental Management Initiative (EMI) at all of its golf courses. The voluntary initiative, which is unlike any other in the industry, sets rigorous performance goals that create sustainable solutions. Troon Golf EMI combines three distinguished environmental programs together, including the company’s long-established Troon Agronomy Standards, the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, and the Troon Golf Environmental Management System (EMS). Troon Agronomy Standards have been the cornerstone of the programs and practices at every Troon Golf facility since the inception of the company. The foundation of the standards is to provide all properties additional guidance on the practices that most effect daily golf course conditions. The program covers a multitude of activities and is based on implementing basic scientific principals to daily maintenance programs. These include key environmental initiatives such as carefully monitoring water usage and using natural products and composed manure fertilizers that help eliminate the regular use of soluble fertilizers and petroleum based chemicals. Most importantly, these green-based standards actually create a more effective and efficient way of maintaining high quality turf. Troon Golf EMI includes Troon Golf’s strategic partnership with Audubon International, a leading organization dedicated to educating, assisting, and inspiring people to protect and sustain the earth’s natural resources. The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses features award-winning education and certification programs that help golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf. While a large number of the company’s domestic October 2008 courses are already registered in these environmental programs, Troon Golf has launched a company-wide initiative to have its entire portfolio of courses certified by Audubon International. Finally, Troon Golf EMS provides the framework for combining the best management practices of Troon’s Agronomy Standards and the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses into a flexible and measurable program. Troon Golf EMS is a continual cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing and improving the way courses manage their impact on the environment. Benefits of Troon Golf EMS include resource conser- Forest Dunes Golf Club vation, pollution prevention, improved environmental performances, enhanced compliance, and an increase in efficiency. Troon Golf EMS establishes goals and takes corrective action to ultimately reduce the environmental footprint left by golf courses. The company’s conviction to do “what’s right” by implementing Troon Golf EMI not only positions it as the industry leader in environmental stewardship, it demonstrates that the golf community is committed to sustainable solutions and environmental enhancement. www.GolfIncMagazine.com 31 http://www.troongolf.com
