Golf Inc. - October 2008 - (Page 33) Arnold Palmer 22 Tom Ferguson Chairman Palmer Course Design Amer can Golf erican 2007 Rank: 23 24 CEO American Golf Corp. 2007 Rank: 20 i ll one of golf ’s most recognizable — and bankable — names, Palmer remains active in course design and as an ambassador for the game. He recently launched the Palmer Premier concept, in which the golf course, club and surrounding development are built and operated to specific standards. Even at age 79, Palmer remains involved in a host of other business activities, ranging from an equipment line that carries his name to his own wine label. He also owns the Bay Hill Club in Orlando, where he hosts an annual PGA Tour event. St te persistent rumors that a selloff of a part or all of AGC’s 113 owned Despi or managed properties is in the works, Ferguson continues to keep the company’s day-to-day operations on an even keel. It’s not an easy job, given that owners Goldman Sachs and Starwood Corp. have pared the AGC portfolio substantially from the approximately 250 18-hole equivalents they acquired nearly seven years ago. Since taking over the job two years ago, Ferguson has maintained a low profile within the industry, however, that could change if the owners decide to pull the trigger on another major portfolio downsizing. We elected to go with O&M because their insurance program allows the resigning member who’s relocating to get their money back. Prospective members understand the concept and that it’s through a nationally recognized insurance company. It gives the new member a sense of comfort.” Bob Holzman, General Manager, Weston Hills Country Club, Weston, FL (Heritage Golf Group) who assumed his present job in March after running the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America for 17 years, is putting the “world” back into the WGF. He’s helped push the international golf in the Olympics movement and is helping The First Tee, a WGF subsidiary, expand globally, as well as overseeing PGA Tour drug testing and spearheading new grow-the-game efforts. Mona also oversees Golf 20/20 and its aggressive grow-the-game efforts that have introduced golf to thousands of potential players. Mona, INITIATION FEE INSURANCE from Owners & Members WORKS.
