Golf Inc. - October 2008 - (Page 45) Development Development Recap e n p VIETNAM Construction to begin on $3 billion project An 18-hole golf course is just one of the amenities to be included in a $3 billion eco-tourism complex along the Ca Lo River in Vietnam’s Dong Anh and Soc Son districts. Construction on the 500-hectare development is expected to get underway by the end of the year, according to Nguyen Van Dung, general director of the Vietnam Star Group Joint Stock Co. (VSG). VSG is jointly developing the eco-tourism project along with Swissbased Tradco Global Engineering and Construction S.A., a division of the multi-national conglomerate Tradco Global Group. Construction will be spread across four phases of development stretching from 2008 to 2013. The new golf course will be built during the first phase of construction along with a 250-room resort hotel, water park and residential villas. Phase one of development is projected to deliver in late 2011. Later phases will include additional hotels, residential and apartment complexes. Approximately one-third of the land in the development area will be dedicated to residential and resort real estate, with the rest reserved for various public facilities. AUSTRALIA Sydney-based Tonkin Zulaikha Greer Architects has been appointed to serve as the overall project architect. A $180 million development scheduled to open in late 2010, Musselroe Bay Resort will also feature a 100-suite hotel as well as 320 residential units located throughout the 4,700-acre site. THAILAND Bon Golf tabbed to run Musselroe Bay Spencer Morgan Group has selected Melbourne-based operator Bon Golf to manage the planned golf course at its Musselroe Bay Resort development in the northeast region of Tasmania. Construction on the 18-hole, championship course by Michael Clayton Golf Design is expected to begin in late 2008. Palm Cove Resort to feature 18-hole course A ne w 18-hole golf cours e and marina are being added to the Palm Cove Khanom Beach Resort & Spa in Khanom as developer JAD Co., Ltd. attempts to market fractional ownership opportunities at the beachfront resort overlooking Kho Samui Island. JAD Co., Ltd. recently selected the French consultancy Group COREFI to oversee development and promotion of the Palm Cove Khanom Project. BALI A full 18 holes of golf now is open for play at New Kuta Golf Course on the Indonesian island of Bali. Developed by Golf Links Resort, the property is expected to provide a boost to Indonesia’s ailing tourist economy. The course -- designed by Golfplan-Fream, Dale & Ramsey – is the centerpiece of a development that currently includes Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons hotels. It eventually also will include residential villas, restaurants and shops. Golfplan partner David Dale said the par-72, 6,812-yard layout provides golfers with a links feel, though it plays along cliff tops rather than near the shore.
