Find out what the students did and which schools have the winningest clinics. ike involvement in law review or the student bar association, participation in a law school clinic can look great on a new lawyer’s resumé. But, unlike some extra- or co-curricular activities, working with clinics can also give law students first-hand experience. Clinic will put you in touch with real-life clients, and have you doing research or drafting documents and arguments for honest-togoodness legal cases. Some lucky students even get a chance to help argue cases before the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court. That’s a chance no self-respecting law student would turn down if offered. WINNINGEST C L Of course, not every clinic case is a winner. But even when they don’t win, students who participate in law school clinics say the skills and experiences they gain are priceless. The National Jurist took a look at some of the outstanding legal work being done by law school clinics these days, and profiled a few of the more interesting and unique cases they have won. Understandably, there is no way we can include every clinic or every great case. This article and the accompanying list of clinics and cases is just a small sampling of the work being done by the hundreds of law school clinics in this country. We applaud them all. 24 THE NATIONAL JURIST January 2007 Lewis & Clark Law School Portland, Oregon Pacific Environmental Advocacy Center For many people, the state of Oregon brings to mind rain, endless pine forests, mountains and environmental activists. And the last of those stereotypes can be found in abundance at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Ore. The school’s Pacific Environmental Advocacy Center PEAC has successfully litigated dozens of cases, and in the last eight months, the clinic has seen a streak of outstanding wins.
