Argentina Hassanali said she found a niche for herself in the legal community while on her summer study trip this past summer to Argentina. “I loved it,” she said. “Argentina was really interesting to me because around 2000 it had one of the largest economies in Latin America.” Hassanali, who is studying international trade, said she was becoming disheartened with law school before her trip. The trip helped her see where she wanted to go in her legal career. “ Fo r p e o p l e that aren’t aware, you open your mind to so many things,” Hassanali said of studying abroad. “There’s this huge pressure to be this certain type of lawyer. There’s a lot more out there that you can do with your legal career than being at a big law firm.” A big believer in building bridges between people and cultures, Hassanali immersed herself in every aspect of the experience. Even after the study abroad program was over, she stayed and traveled to Brazil and will also spend this spring semester in Argentina again. “The people are very open and were interested in us,” she said. “You don’t realize how big of an impact you could have until you get out there.” The University of Oxford & The George Washington University Law School 14th Annual Program in International Human Rights Law New College, Oxford July 6–August 2, 2008 For more information, please contact International Programs The George Washington University Law School 2000 H Street, NW Washington, DC 20052 (202)-994-6588 Oxford@law.gwu.edu www.gwu.edu/summer/abroad/oxford.html An equal opportunity/affirmative action institution.
