Most prestigious firms Vault names the Top 100 law firms For the fourth straight year, Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz has garnered the top spot on Vault’s Top 100 most prestigious law firms ranking. The New York-based firm posts the highest earnings-per-partner in the world. In 2006, the figure averaged $3.79 million, according Vault’s 2008 Edition of their popular ranking. But unlike other rankings, Vault is not assessing firms by profit, size, lifestyle, number of deals or quality of service — they are ranking based on the perceptions of currently practicing lawyers at peer firms. Vault collected over 18,800 anonymous surveys sent to 167 law firms, each asking for them to score each of the firms on a scale of 1 to 10 based on how prestigious it is to work for the firm. Associates were asked to ignore any firm with which they were unfamiliar and were not allowed to rank their own firm. Check out who made it to the top of the list.
