National Jurist - October 2007 - (Page 36) She advised students to look at obtaining an LL.M. from all aspects and to not limit themselves to a specific area. “If it’s something that you’re truly passionate about, something that you’re really interested in, find a way to make it work for you and fit into what you’re doing,” Gardner said. “If you’re not practicing in the right area of law, that LL.M. degree can get you into that area that you’d like to be practicing in.” How to choose an LL.M. program To n i Fi n e , a s s i s t a n t d e a n f o r International and Non-JD programs at Fordham University School of Law, said you should turn to others when contemplating an LL.M. degree. Clinical opportunities, program size, location, classes and professional opportunities are all things to consider. “I would ask any and every question,” she said. “There is no question that is out of bounds or inappropriate or excessive.” Also, gather any and all information from wherever you can get it, Gardner said. “I think that when you’re in law school, you’re just hungry for any bit of information you can get about what it’s like to practice law and what it’s like to really be out there,” she said. Weiner suggested researching the law schools in the area of practice you are considering to try and find the best fit for you.
