National Jurist - November 2008 - (Page 43) attorney Name: Felipe Sandoval LL.M. degree: Washington University at St. Louis School of Law Position: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Location: Chile UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA GRADUATE PROGRAMS profile Felipe Sandoval earned his LL.M. degree at Washington University School of Law in 2003. He is a 2001 graduate of the Catholic University of Chile. Sandoval works at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile as a legal advisor on trade negotiations. For the last two years he has worked in the areas of services and investment. “Washington University School of Law has truly provided me with a ‘tail wind,’” he said. “You cannot imagine what a difference it has made for my professional life.” But beyond the classes and books, Sandoval said it’s the ‘positive attitude’ that really makes a difference. “Approaching people correctly, being nice to them, and paying special attention to their specific needs, is probably the key to Washington University’s multicultural community,” he said. “It provided me with the right training for my work that I find so interesting.” Sandoval found meetings at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Investment Committee and joint sessions of the World Bank to be fascinating. Lately, he has participated in negotiations on the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization headquarters in Paris. He was also appointed as Chile’s delegate to the APEC Group on Services. Most importantly, he was part of the negotiation team for a Free Trade Agreement between Chile, Brunei, Singapore and New Zealand (Pacific Four), which was successfully concluded last March. “In sum, my Washington University School of Law LL.M. opened doors for me, and I recommend the program to all my colleagues,” Sandoval said.
