The student-faculty ratio is a low 11 to 1, and the average class size is 55 for first-year classes and 22 for upper-level classes. The law school is adding six new faculty members for the upcoming year, so that ratio will remain steady. Staying modern and competitive is a high priority for the law school, which was founded in 1872. The 2006 academic year also saw the opening of a $15 million addition to the law school with more room for the clinical program and mock trial teams, study and meeting rooms, new offices, a cafe and additional classrooms. University of Alabama prides itself on providing students with a comfortable place to learn. “The law school’s facilities are open, spacious and offer students pleasant surroundings in which to study,” Reeves said. Giving students a well-rounded lawschool experience is another priority. It has enjoyed eight visits by U.S. Supreme Court Justices, a Public Interest Institute to encourage students to work for non-profit or government agencies and a public-interest certificate program. It boasts more than 100 spots per year in six different clinics. Reeves also noted the law school’s thriving externship program, two international summer programs and successful moot court and trial advocacy teams. And if you still have time, make a pit stop at Jazzman’s Café, the law school’s health-conscious dining service.
