About 150 students are admitted annually. The law school’s student body is unique for many reasons, Worthen said. Students tend to be a year or two older than most law school students, largely because they have engaged in some form of religious missions or public service during their undergraduate years. As a result of these missions — which tend to be overseas — more than 75 percent BYU’s Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring that students graduate without debt. Become an instrument of change. of the student body speak a second language fluently. This fluency, in addition to the school’s high admission standards, is one reason recruiters seek out Clark’s graduates, Worthen said. It also helps that the law school’s career-services office aggressively encourages students to think about their future careers. For example, students in their first year can take two half-credit courses on job-search skills and career development. Another way the law school promotes career development is by participating in many off-campus recruiting events, helping students find jobs in major legal communities including New York City and Washington, D.C. The results are impressive — despite its relatively short history, the law school has already produced 13 U.S. Supreme Court clerks. And a third of its first-year class will enjoy overseas internships in exotic countries like Ghana, China, Peru and Japan. Students also enjoy high-tech privileges like individual study nooks that are wired to the Internet, Worthen said. “We make it so they can in a cooperative way enhance the skills they have when they arrive on campus,” he added. “It’s something employers find very attractive.” Faulkner University Thomas Goode Jones School of Law 80 years young and thriving ★ Vermont Law School can prepare you to take the lead. Founded in 1928, the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law has long paid the bills on its basic infrastructure, said Dean Charles Nelson. “We’re able to keep our tuition at a modest level,” Nelson said. Indeed, students at this private law school pay $22,000 for both resident and non-resident full-time tuition. Its typical first-year class has about 100 or so students. Based in Montgomery, Ala., the low cost of living is another reason students find their law degree more affordable than most, Nelson said. Although the law school does not enjoy any sizable endowments, he said it has managed its budget in such a way that it ensures students receive the best features of a law-school education. 32 preLaw http://www.vermontlaw.edu http://www.vermontlaw.edu http://www.vermontlaw.edu
