They don’t come out with a lot of fluff courses.” Nelson credits the law school’s tight focus to its high bar passage rate. For example, its 2006 pass rate for its 48 firsttime test takers was 93.8 percent compared to 80 percent for the other law schools in the state. Because the majority of its graduates end up in law firms, the law school’s Career Services department focuses on helping students find the right clerkships, externships and internships, Nelson said. Beyond its educational focus, Nelson said the law school seems to have a genuinely caring environment. Because the University has a Christian mission, students who choose to attend the Jones law school have genuine affection for their fellow man, Nelson said. He recalls a recent tornado that ripped through Montgomery, affecting many of the apartment complexes where students live. The student body mobilized to help one another, outfitting those in need and ensuring that many had places to stay and study as needed. “Our students really try to take care of one another,” Nelson said.
