In 1999, Rothenberg became the first woman to head the law school in its 185-year history. “We have a very diverse student body,” she said. “It’s partly because we’ve created a reputation of trying to establish leaders of public policy.” Rothenberg said students are taught that you don’t have to get a job at the top law firm to be successful. Over 20 percent of students that graduate go into public interest fields. “We teach our students that regardless of the career path that you take, everyone has this privilege of the law degree,” she said.
