Dress him up for the inaugural HowlO-Ween Pet Parade. Afterward, he can hit the dog agility course, Frisbee catch competition, pet parade or free play area. On-site pet adoption, concessions available. The first 50 dogs receive a Halloween treat. Dogs must have current shots, with records attached to the registration form or brought the day of the event. The Capitol Steps Oct. 19, 7 p.m. Prairie Center for the Arts 201 Schaumburg Court (847) 895-3600 www.prairiecenter.org Cost: $38 ($36 for students & seniors) “The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them, said Rob Pileckis, production supervisor of the Prairie Center for the Arts. “Although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.” A Haunting in The Valley Oct. 24 & 25, 5 to 9 p.m. Spring Valley Nature Center 1111 E. Schaumburg Road (847) 985-2100, www.parkfun.com/ recreation/SpringValley.aspx Cost: Advance $4 & $5 The Valley has kicked it up a notch this year, replacing its previous Halloween program that ran for more than 20 years. “It’s like a rolling haunted house,” said Dave Brooks of Spring Valley. The 30-minute ride will feature graveyard scenes and other special effects.
