Below: First grader Ty Caraker scoops up a beanbag. photos by bill zars/schaumburg magazine District 54 Foundation by eileen o. daday L akeview Elementary School in Hoffman Estates dedicated a “peaceful playground” in May, and when children returned to school this year, they once more gravitated to its unique space. On the school’s blacktop are multicolored boxes and patterns that lend themselves to innovative, noncompetitive games. There also are letters, which provide the backdrop for games that build reading skills. Adapting the playground was done using one of the latest project grants from the Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation. Starts where the school budget leaves off
