Irish prelude music begins at 6:30 p.m. “This will be our 6th annual Mass in which we try to bring the religious aspect of St. Patrick’s Day into our celebrations,” explained Nancy Quincy of The West Suburban Irish. “A harpist usually plays traditional Irish music during the prelude and the Mass includes the Trinity and McNulty Irish dancers, the Highland Guard bagpipers and the Knights of Columbus.” For information, call the church at (630) 355-8980. On stage Irish-themed performances can add another dimension of fun to the holiday. The Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights has two Irish events planned. Liz Carroll and John Doyle present An Evening of Irish Music at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 16. John is one of the most innovative guitar players to come out of Ireland and Liz has been winning awards with her fiddle for years. Together they play the traditional songs of Ireland in an unusual style that has made them a true force in the world of Irish music. At 8 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day itself, Tuesday, March 17, Metropolis will present a production of “Flanagan’s Wake,” an interactive comedy ripe with tall tales and hilarious songs. Another opportunity to enjoy Irish music will be provided by The Chieftains, the six-time Grammy winners from Ireland who provide a rollicking program of traditional Irish melodies, step dancing and spirited repartee.
