When love becomes a weapon in the hands of the Marquise de Merteuil, it is aimed to destroy the pure and innocent heart of Cécile de Volanges. The Marquise de Merteuil convinces her ex-lover Vicomte Sébastien Valmont to join her high stakes games and offers her favours as the prize. What ensues is a plot full of seduction, desire, and treachery. Based on the novel by Jean Grand-Maître and the Oscar-winning movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Glenn Close, Dangerous Liaisons is set during the reign of King Louis XVI. Its themes are well suited to visceral immediacy of ballet. Featuring the works of several composers including Enojuhani Rautavaara, Giya Kancheli and Arvo Pärt, Dangerous Liaisons proves why the classics endure. Grammy Award-winning conductor Victor Vanacore joins singer Steve Lippia in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s tribute to Frank Sinatra. Simply Sinatra includes performances of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ greatest hits including My Way, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, and New York, New York.
