Chatham-Kent Travel Guide 2008 - (Page 12) experience Genealogy Located in the main branch of the Chatham-Kent Public Library, the Kent County Genealogy and Family History Library offers researchers access to marriage records, church and family histories, cemetery transcriptions, census information, maps and an extensive obituary collection. The genealogy library is also gathering a collection of records for French heritage research. Tracing Roots in Chatham-Kent Our roots define our past and present. Tracing them can solve family mysteries and answer lingering questions that may help shape our future. The pursuit of family history can take many unpredictable turns but several groups exist in Chatham-Kent to keep records available and make research easier. Kent Branch O.G.S. Researchers Just outside the room of the genealogy library, the main library offers a local history collection and an extensive newspaper index, providing researchers one-stop convenient access to a wealth of materials. People tracing their black roots can research the extensive archives and research libraries at Buxton National Historic Site and Museum as well as the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society’s Black Mecca exhibit in the Heritage Room at the WISH Centre in Chatham. Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society at the WISH Centre Equipped with extensive records and appropriate research tools, the Kent Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society can help simplify the search for ancestors when roots lead back to Chatham-Kent.
