From spring to late summer, kitesurfers at Mitchell’s Bay can enjoy the sport without a wetsuit. During winter, the protected shelters of Rondeau Bay and Mitchell’s Bay are ideal for snowkiting, another sport Surf Culture Canada teaches. During the winter, snowkiting clinics are held on weekends. Surf Culture Canada and Erieau Wakeboard & Watersports School instructors are certified in CPR and First Aid. Chatham-Kent’s beach communities are taking aquatic activities to the extreme with kitesurfing and wakeboarding adventures. Tourists seeking new thrills can experience kitesurfing, a summer sport that utilizes a large traction kite to pull the surfer around on the surface of the water. Surf Culture Canada, Ontario’s kiteboarding authority, can introduce the novice to the sport with two-hour lessons including gear rental. In the summer 2008, Surf Culture Canada will offer tours of Mitchell’s Bay on stand-up paddleboards, a popular sport overseas. People interested in learning to wakeboard, a combination of surfing and waterskiing, can contact Erieau Wakeboard & Watersports School for lessons. Towed behind a boat, the wakeboarder rides the board sideways like a surfboard. Lessons include use of equipment at no additional cost.
