Chatham-Kent Travel Guide 2008 - (Page 42) explore M i t c h e l l ’s B a y The friendly hamlet of Mitchell’s Bay is a popular recreational destination with world-class fishing and hunting and a sandy shoreline perfect for fun in the sun. Right in the bay or a few miles out in Lake St. Clair, anglers can catch their choice of trophysize muskie, pickerel, bass and perch. Several tributaries provide great spots to cast a line. Mitchell’s Bay is also known for ice fishing with perch, bluegill and crappie available a few feet off the shoreline. Anglers can walk or take an ice taxi to their desired location. Stores and services accommodate anglers and hunters to Mitchell’s Bay. The full service marina has several boat launches, bait and tackle, accessories, fuel, dockage and a campground. Anglers can purchase fishing licenses and the professional service of charter guides. Thousands of waterfowl that stop at Mitchell’s Bay from late September to mid-December make it a popular hunting destination. Several hunting camps and guide services are available. Close by, the St. Clair National Wildlife Area in the rural French community of Pain Court provides excellent bird watching opportunities with impressive numbers of migrating water- fowl. Tundra swans return in mid-March but particularly in the fall, this 242-hectare wetland can draw up to 20,000 geese, ducks and swans. Views are best along the scenic trail.
