Loop streets, single-family dwellings and apartments for seniors and students, and townhomes along Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard. The area is bounded by Bath Road, Portsmouth Avenue and Johnson Street. Nearby, Kingston Shopping Centre, the Kingston YMCA, churches, St. Lawrence College, Calvin Park Library, separate and public schools at both elementary and secondary levels. Prices start around $202,000, with apartment-style condos starting at $106,000. Portsmouth Village District (G10): apartment complexes. Small, detached starter homes sell for $130,000 and up. The area has quiet streets with many facilities and attractions in easy walking distance including parks, commercial services, public and separate schools at the elementary level, churches, a library, the Kingston Memorial Centre and the Kingston Shopping Centre. Sydenham District (F13): The first homes in this district date back to the 1850s. This extremely popular and lively downtown core features fine Victorian homes, townhouses and flats off the main thoroughfares ranging widely in price depending on size and amenities. Waterfront condominiums range from $315,000 to $995,000. Location makes this area very desirable, and much of the available housing stock has been renovated to high standards. Close to the market, downtown shopping and restaurants. Facilities and attractions: the Central Library, Confederation Basin Marina and Confederation Park with its festivals and events, Kingston Yacht Club, Hotel Dieu Hospital, hotels, museums, civic government buildings including City Hall with its farmers’ market and seasonal skating rink, and historic churches, parks and a waterfront walkway. Queen’s Campus District (G12): This area, bordered by the shore of Lake Ontario, includes some historic mansions converted to institutional use; some are still maintained as single-family residences. Alwington Place, a waterfront enclave with exclusive homes, boasts a private park and views of the water. Historic Portsmouth Village, annexed in 1952, features picturesque frame cottages and street-side shops. An older section of Kingston, with the first residents building homes in the 1850s adjacent to the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour complex and marina, Queen’s West Campus, St. Lawrence College and Lake Ontario Park. Immediately to the west is the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club. A mixture of older and upscale housing, prices run anywhere from $127,000 in the streets of the village to $437,000 and up in Alwington Place; some condominium housing from $190,000 Kingscourt (E12): A north-end suburb of housing built in the late 1940s and early '50s. Victoria Park, Kingston General Hospital, Stauffer Library, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre and all types of schools are within walking distance.
