WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOODS KINGSTON IS A COMFORTABLE FAMILY-ORIENTED PLACE TO LIVE. Preservation of historical homes in limestone, brick and clapboard has resulted in individual residential pockets that give the city its unique character. Modern subdivisions with amenities comparable to larger urban centres round out the wide range of housing options. Housing prices continue to compare favourably with the rest of Canada. In the fall of 2007, a detached bungalow could be purchased for $164,000, compared to prices starting at over $300,000 in Toronto, $250,000 in Ottawa and $198,000 in Halifax, to a high of $400,000 in Victoria. The City of Kingston and immediate area, population 152,358, includes Kingston East and Kingston West. Further to the west lies Loyalist Township, and to the south and east, small rural communities on Amherst, Wolfe and Howe islands beckon to those dreaming of island life.
