Spread the Fire - November/December 2007 - (Page 25) S ometimes lives are like plays of 1, 3 and 5 acts. Jack Frost’s life was a 3- act play. He died this spring leaving a legacy to his family and the body of Christ, a revelation of the Father Heart of God. The great part about Jack was that he not only preached it, he lived it. I have seldom seen a Christian so devoted to baring his soul so that we could benefit from his mistakes. Listening to him preach, made you squirm with conviction. His last book, SPIRITUAL SLAVERY TO SPIRITUAL SONSHIP: YOUR DESTINY AWAITS YOU, will help you face the motives of the heart behind the trouble you have in your relationships with God and other authority figures. It is the story of Jack’s journey from a place where even as a Christian he served God and the church with a mixed motive of self-serving ambition and eventually found a place of repentance, forgiveness, restitution, reconciliation and rest in the Father’s love. It is the fitting punctuation mark to his unique life and ministry. Before Jack came to Christ, he had a very successful career as a commercial fisherman who fished the waters of the Atlantic off the southeastern coast of the United States. This occupation is a trade normally handed down from fathers to sons, but Jack’s father wasn’t a fisherman. Instead, he learned fishing under the faithful tutelage of an experienced fisherman who had no son and intended to hand the business to Jack. In detail Jack exposes how the orphan-like issues of his heart caused him to betray his mentor and friend and grasp for opportunity because he hadn’t learned how to be a true son. After Jack came to Christ, he repeated the same error with a spiritual father. Once again, he found himself serving for what he could gain rather from the joy of serving. He opens his heart to the reader as in no other book I have ever read by exposing a common problem in the church which often lies at the root of much division. Spiced with his own absorbing tales of the sea and drawing analogies between them and his spiritual battles, Jack’s book will take you on a voyage where you will take an honest self-examination of your own motives and show you how to dock in the restful harbor of God’s love. I found it difficult to put the book down. This book will be an answer to Christians who have grown weary of feeling like orphans. The book identifies the issues of orphans and shows how Christians react to others in their environments out of an “orphan spirit.” The orphan spirit, according to Jack, cannot be cast out. It must be displaced by the Holy Spirit, bringing to the believer a revelation of sonship and the heavenly Father’s love. It is the key to maturing into the image of Christ. SPIRITUAL SLAVERY TO SPIRITUAL SONSHIP is an antidote to the poison of insecurity at the root of so much turmoil in church and the Christian’s life. It will bless pastors and flocks more than any other book I have read recently. S TF - 2 5
