sudburyupfront this year Greater Sudbury is celebrating its 125th birthday. it all started when the Canadian pacific railway arrived in 1883. Senior railway official James Worthington named the new whistle-stop after his wife’s hometown, Sudbury, a small community in the county of Suffolk, England. Laurentian Media Magzines Group will be publishing the city’s125th Official anniversary Keepsake magazine. City staff and the Greater Sudbury 125 Community Champion committee have planned numerous celebrations which include a party at tom davies Square, set for June 7. there will also be photograph and art displays at the Via station, downtown, and at the Northern Ontario rail Museum and Heritage Centre in Capreol. residents can sign up for the Voices of Our past tour at the Lasalle Cemetery. people will be met by the Gate Keeper, a First Nations spirit who has watched over the city since 1883. Ghosts of former residents (played by actors) will appear to tell their stories. One never knows who one might meet. the Lasalle Cemetery is rumoured to be haunted! Happy BirtHday SudBury! Following three seasons as a hit television series, March Entertainment, the Sudburybased animation company, has released the Chilly Beach movie on dVd. Chilly Beach: the World is Hot Enough begins with hosers dale and Frank planning to build a climate-altering device in the hope of attracting tourists to their sub-arctic hometown. But once the american Secret Service discovers their plans, dale and Frank are in big trouble. the dVd is packed with bonus nuggets. among the extras are deleted scenes from the movie and a live-action mockumentary that takes viewers behind the scenes to meet the creators of Chilly Beach. Chilly Beach, about a northern town, graduated from online webisodes into a Gemininominated network television show and from there, a feature film. it is distributed by Vivendi Visual Entertainment Canada/dEp Entertainment. Meet ith s  Sudbury Living Spring 2008 david adjey, the host of the Food Network show restaurant Makeover, and author of deconstructing the dish: inspirations for Modern-day Cuisine, will be the guest speaker at the Emerging Leaders event, Wednesday, Sept. 10 at the Caruso Club. adjey has had success working with hundreds of young people and will share his insights on how to keep Generation y engaged. the celebrity chef is speaking as part of the Emerging Leaders Conference and trade Show (www.emergingleaders. ca) sponsored by the City of Greater Sudbury, Sudbury & Manitoulin Workforce partnerships Board and Northern Ontario Business. in the evening, 40 people under 40 will be honoured at an awards reception. the deadline to submit nominations is Friday, May 2 (www.40underforty.ca).
