Pinecroft is celebrating 60 years of Canadian Achievement as a pottery studio in 2008. Opened in May of 1948, Pinecroft today is Canada’s oldest continuously operating pottery studio. Pinecroft is located in an original log cabin built in 1934 .The 54 acre pine forest setting is reminiscent of Northern Ontario, an ideal setting for creative artists. Arthur Caverly had the vision in the 1920's to plant 85,000 pine seedlings and to dredge a 2-1/2 acre lake with teams of horses to create his own Muskoka. Pinecroft has developed over the last 60 years into a tourist destination where visitors can take in the peaceful serenity of the park like setting. Visitors are encouraged to rest, relax and enjoy the towering pines and the beauty that nature has to offer. Today this serene setting is home to Pinecroft’s pottery studio, gift shop, tearoom, and bed & breakfast. Elgin County is helping Pinecroft celebrate their anniversary with an exhibition of 60 years of Pinecroft Pottery at the Elgin County Museum in St. Thomas from August until December. The exhibition is presented in co-operation with Conrad Biernacki of the Royal Ontario Museum.
