Penticton’s MEETING PLACE | B Y A SH L EY RATÉE Penticton is a “Place to Stay Forever,” and more than 40,000 people choose to do so. who want an alternative to Kelowna. Take the Subaru sponsored Ironman competition on August 24, 2008 for example. It is a grueling 226 km triathlon, attracting athletes from around the world. Since 1983, the Penticton Ironman event has grown to become one of the best Ironman competitions in the world. It’s just another reason why the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre will be the focus of events. “Global Spectrum Facility Management is on the pulse of emerging developments and bringing economic growth to communities,” says Debra Martyn-Jones, Assistant General Manager of the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre. She adds that, “with the opening of the new South Okanagan Events Centre along with the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, Global Spectrum Facility Management is enhancing the City of Penticton with new opportunities in tourism, sports and entertainment and employment growth.” With the direct economic impact of the PTCC estimated to be $39 million, the opportunities are tremendous. The Penticton Trade and Convention Centre offers people an exemplary venue to host an event, in a city that enjoys more than 2100 hours of sunshine. The Penticton Trade and Convention Centre is the venue for the Penticton Jazz Festival in September and the BC Home Show, Okanagan Wedding Festival and BC Wine Festival in October. That’s why there is no better time than this year to visit Penticton, with its beautiful setting, rich cultural events, outdoor recreation opportunities, proximity to wineries, and easy access to other centres in the Okanagan; it is truly a place to visit or to stay forever. n P enticton is a “Place to Stay Forever,” and more than 40,000 people choose to do so. But it is equally a place to hold an event at the newly renovated, 60,000 square foot, full service Penticton Trade and Convention Centre (PTCC). With Global Spectrum being the new operators of the PTCC, their catchphrase “How You Doin’?” certainly sums up their friendly ‘can do’ attitude. As the largest convention centre outside of Vancouver and just 80 km, or about an hour by car from Kelowna International Airport, there is now every opportunity to hold more business meetings, destination weddings, seminars, concerts, sport events and cultural festivals in Penticton. With a first class catering facility, a capacity to accommodate 3,500 people, free parking, and proximity to hotels, shopping, restaurants, and golf courses, the PTCC offers some excellent benefits. Ryan McCarthy, the Director of Marketing for the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre says that “with the South Okanagan Event Centre coming on line this September, Penticton will be in the spotlight across North America.” Scheduled appearances include Juno winner Feist, and rock band Chicago. McCarthy adds that with a world-class facility, Global Spectrum Facility Management will attract world class events such as Olympic training camps, NHL exhibition games, concerts, and family shows.
