With over 600 km of scenic interconnected lakes weaving through the region, a trip onto Southern Lakes waterways gives you that larger-than-life experience. Boat launches are found at campgrounds and marinas throughout the Southern Lakes, and sandy beaches are located at Bennett (Carcross), Marsh (Army Beach), Tagish (California Beach) and Kookatsoon lakes. Local operators offer charters, boat rentals, fishing, wildlife viewing, guiding and other services. If you have your own boat, check conditions before you go. Remember that these glacier-fed lakes are extremely cold and conditions can change quickly. nisutlin adventure Explore the Nisutlin River delta, a major waterfowl staging area that is particularly active in the spring and fall. Thousands of ducks, swans, geese and hundreds of shorebirds pass through on their annual migrations. Some travellers paddle the Nisutlin or Wolf rivers, making the delta a wonderful place to end a journey, while others enjoy fishing, bird-watching and wildlife-viewing day trips from nearby Teslin. annie Lake road Chilkoot Trail viewpoint – YG Chilkoot Trail If your schedule and physical condition permit, plan a few days to hike the 53-km trail used by the stampeders in 1898, and earlier by the Tlingit as a trade route. Rich in Klondike Gold Rush history, the Chilkoot Trail is a “living museum” at the top of must-do lists for many Yukon visitors. For those with limited time or a preference for a softer Chilkoot experience, enjoy a scenic ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway. Contact Yukon tour operators about day trips or guided hiking packages. Spend a day discovering the Annie Lake Road, a winding drive up the beautiful Wheaton River valley. This scenic side road offers a multitude of options for wilderness hiking, mountain biking and paddling. Trails in the area offer splendid views, showy flowers and varying degrees of difficulty.
