Alaska Highway Km 1247 (3 km west of Teslin) Johnsons Crossing A high bridge spans the Teslin River, a place where many paddlers start canoe trips down the Teslin to the Yukon River. Just to the east of the bridge is the junction with the South Canol Road (not recommended for large motorhomes), beckoning travellers with a circle route opportunity through the scenery of the Campbell region. Alaska Highway Km 1296 Yukon river Headwaters The Yukon River officially starts at the Yukon River Bridge on the Alaska Highway north of Marsh Lake. Here you’ll find a viewing platform and interpretive panels about local history and wildlife. The Yukon River is one of the mightiest rivers of North America. At 3,018 km (1,875 miles), it’s second in length only to the Mackenzie River. Lakeside camping and accommodations are nearby. Stop at the pullout to read about Emerald Lake’s stunning hue. South Klondike Highway Km 117 (12 km north of Carcross) Carcross desert Venture into the “world’s smallest desert,” comprised of sandy hillsides that used to form a glacial lake bed. Explore the dunes and their fascinating ecology. You’ll spot some of the unique plants that survive in the arid, windy conditions. South Klondike Highway Km 107 tagish Bridge recreation site Loop back along Tagish Road for a pleasant side trip or an alternate way to get to Atlin.
