A gathering and meeting place for centuries, Fort Selkirk was the earliest permanent settlement in the Yukon. A bustling community during the gold rush, Fort Selkirk was all but abandoned by the mid-1950s. Now a beautifully restored settlement on the Yukon River, situated between Carmacks and Pelly Crossing, Fort Selkirk is only accessible by boat. Yukon River travel arrangements can be made with Yukon tour operators. Hiking or Biking the ridge road Trail, Dawson city The 32-km Ridge Road Heritage Trail makes for an enjoyable afternoon of mountain biking or a one- to three-day hike along the ridgetops back to the Klondike River valley. The Ridge Road was built in 1899 to transport goods in and out of the goldfields. Two pleasant, rustic campsites are located along this historic scenic trail, as well as scattered remnants of the gold rush. A brochure and a trail map are available at the Visitor Information Centre. Drive 14 km up Bonanza Creek Road, then about the same distance on Upper Bonanza Creek Road to access the upper trailhead. Parks canada Tours, Dawson city Hear captivating stories of the gold rush era from knowledgeable guides attired in period costume. The Town Walking Tour is a one-and-a-halfhour stroll through the Dawson City downtown core. Other regularly scheduled parks events include an S.S. Keno tour and the Robert Service program. Don’t miss Parks Canada’s major attractions: the Commissioner’s Residence and Dredge #4. Playing golf at midnight, Dawson city At the Top of the World Golf Course you can tee off in the middle of the night! With nine holes and all the amenities, these beautiful greens make up Yukon’s most northerly golf course. Take the ferry across the Yukon River and follow the signs to the golf course.
