The Daymon Difference - Winter 2008/2009 - (Page 16) more great stuff… After going 17-3 in the regular season on the strong pitching of Nick Janowicz, the son of Skipper Tony Janowicz, the EYLLL AA Yankees swept through the playoffs to capture the League Title this summer while posting an overall record of 24-3. (Tony also happens to be Daymon’s Business Manager at Ralphs in Compton, CA. The big story of the championship game was the lights-out pitching of the junior Janowicz, who racked up 12 strike outs in 4 innings. Don Leonard, Daymon’s Sr. Business Manager at Ralphs Grocery in Compton, CA, has been coaching his daughter’s softball team since she was old enough to say “buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks.” And this year Don was “fortunate enough” – or maybe the girls were good enough – to take the La Mirada team all the way to the final game of San Pedro Turkey Tournament Fall Classic in the “under 10” division. There were 18 teams vying for the hardware. Now, it was difficult enough that girls had to play six games in two days. But the real problem was playing in and through all of the smoke of the local fires that just happened to break out in Southern California on the very weekend of the tourney. (BTW – Don was promoted to Senior Business Manager from Business Manager in November, which just goes to show: it’s not whether you win or lose the championship, it’s how you play the game.”) Field of Dreams That’s Big Don in the center with his girl’s softball team.
