Shannon Weisinger is an ardent advocate for Corazon de Vida - or Heart of Life – which is a 501 c3 nonprofit organization. Founded by Hilda Pacheco-Taylor in 1994, CDV is committed to empowering and changing the lives of the orphaned and abandoned children in Baja, Mexico, and Shannon tries “to make it on as many monthly trips as possible.” She made three bus trips this year and is planning another in January. “I have been making trips with this organization for three years and am so passionate about what they do,” Shannon says. With Corazon De Vida, the trips are limited to the Baja area of Mexico, where there are over 50 orphanages that house thousands of orphans. The group goes down in the morning on a bus and stays the whole day, leaves Mexico before nightfall and is back in San Diego that same night. “The children of Baja really have little to nothing to show for themselves but are some of the most amazing On the Bus to Baja Shannon spends some quality time with the orphaned children of Baja. and gracious little people I have ever known,” says Shannon. “Seeing the smiles on their faces as we roll in makes it all worth it every time we go down. They are in need of everything we take for granted. Simple things like food and clothing.” For the Holidays Shannon has created an internet pledge page to raise money for the organization. In that span the sibs have raised over $13,000, and Linda promises, “We ain’t done yet.” Grace is 69, Linda confides, but she refuses to divulge her age, other than to say – “I’m the youngest.” Alzheimer’s is a cause that is near and dear to Linda and Grace – their father, four of his brothers and his mother all suffered from the disease. “It’s a very worthwhile cause and it’s even more rewarding thanks to the generosity of Daymon associates,” says Linda.
