John Muir Health Progress Report 2006/2007 - (Page 2) Exceeding patients’ expectations The theme of this year’s progress report seems especially pertinent, as this is a milestone year for John Muir Health: not only are we are marking the tenth anniversary of the joining together of John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and Mt. Diablo Medical Center in Concord, but we are also embarking on significant expansions and improvements to our two medical centers (for more on these exciting projects, please see page 14). The past and future of John Muir Health is much on our minds, and as we look at where we have been, and where we are going, it is clear that this organization is driven first and foremost by a commitment to our patients. A Uniquely Strong Community Healthcare Provider In 1997, John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and Mt. Diablo Medical Center in Concord joined together, recognizing that their strengths in medical services and infrastructure would create a tremendously strong, locally-controlled healthcare provider for Contra Costa County and the surrounding region. And that is precisely what has happened. The organization that was formed ten years ago has been successful because the two original entities each brought excellent clinicians, advanced technologies, and a culture of innovation that has helped us grow into a regional leader in many medical disciplines. Today John Muir Health’s centers of excellence include our highly regarded Cardiovascular Institute, Neurosciences Institute, Cancer Institute, Orthopedic Services, Behavioral Health Center and high-risk Obstetrics and Newborn care. Our hospitals are also home to Contra Costa County’s only Trauma Center, a nationally recognized Digestive Disorders program, and are among the Bay Area’s first certified and accredited Stroke Centers. Importantly, this commitment to innovative and advanced medical care at John Muir Health is complemented by our strong culture of patient care and patient satisfaction. We believe this reflects the original entities’ shared roots as community-based hospitals. We know it is why today the employees, affiliated physicians and volunteers of John Muir Health continuously seek to exceed patient expectations. With a Uniquely Strong Focus on Patients We are proud to have been able to retain this patient-centric culture throughout the years, and we firmly intend to keep it strong through our next phase of expansion. There are several reasons for our confidence. 2 http://
