John Muir was cited for its excellence in treating orthopedics and digestive disorders. 11 Gold Seals from The Joint Commission – John Muir Health received Gold Seals of Approval™ in 2007 from The Joint Commission. McKesson Chairman’s Achievement Award – John Muir Medical Center – Walnut Creek Campus received the McKesson Chairman’s Achievement Award, recognizing nearly two decades of work in adopting and integrating technological products that greatly improve our patient safety and operational efficiency. Using these technical solutions, John 4 Muir has met our stringent patient safety goals, provided best practices to ensure optimal use of technology that improves patient care in other ways, and made significant strides in efficiency. One new advance recently implemented is the ROBOT-RxTM drug dispensing system, a solution that saves pharmacists considerable time and allows them to be more involved with the delivery of patient care. Cardiac Quality Designation from Blue Shield – John Muir Medical Center - Concord Campus was one of only 20 California hospitals to meet the rigorous standards of Blue Shield of California’s Cardiac Quality Initiative. These included performing a minimum number of surgeries and percutaneous coronary interventions as well as low mortality from these procedures. EBUS Non-Invasive Biopsy Technology – The John Muir Cancer Institute is one of a handful of sites in the United States using new endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) technology. This innovative system performs highly accurate biopsies to help stage lung, esophageal or other thoracic cancers, using ultrasound imaging, allowing patients to avoid surgical incisions. Neurovascular Imaging and Interventional Radiology Suite – A highly advanced interventional radiology suite was completed at the Walnut Creek Campus. The new system provides unparalleled clarity in visualizing vascular malformations, allowing both more accurate diagnoses and more precise catheterguided delivery of coils, stents and other interventional therapies to the disease site. Chest Pain Centers – As the first step in a comprehensive program of improved heart care that has been established by our Cardiovascular Institute, the Emergency Departments at both campuses launched expanded programs to more rapidly assess, diagnose, and – as needed – treat patients complaining of chest pain. The new Chest Pain Centers are designed to reduce mortality and complications and to reduce unnecessary hospitalizations.
