Delta Explorer - Spring 2008 - (Page 23) ness, but granddaughter Katie, a college student, is already involved; she steps in where needed, doing kitchen prep or waiting tables or welcoming guests. Her enthusiasm assures that Giusti’s will continue to be operated as a hands-on family business, something Egisto and Irene would have loved. Other than family ties, what makes Giusti’s so special? Many things. While the menu changes seasonally and daily it always features the familiar: a to-die-for minestrone served a la carte at lunch and family style at dinner time; a generous bowl of dinner salad accompanied by marinated garbanzos and sliced hard salami; and on Fridays, a delicious clam chowder prepared from Linda’s own recipe. Even the bread served at both lunch and dinner is outstanding; it takes effort to resist eating too much of it while waiting for your entrée. No Italian meal would be complete without wine being offered, and Giusti’s presents many vintages and labels to suit all palates. There’s also a fully equipped bar out front where stronger spirits are served, and if you like you can have your meal right there. At Giusti’s, service is everything. Alongside traditional steaks and burgers, seafood is featured – always fresh, and prepared to order. One favorite is calamari steak, lightly breaded and sautéed to perfection; another, grilled oysters, meltingly tender and juicy. In season, delicious shrimp and Dungeness crab are combined on a Caesar salad base. Year-round favorites include grilled chicken Caesar salad and, at dinnertime, rack of lamb. Pasta specialties are on both lunch and dinner menus. Try them all and you’ll understand why it’s so easy to become addicted. It starts with dinner or lunch once a week, and before you know it you’re feeling deprived if you miss several days running. Perhaps as important as food and drink is the atmosphere. Like another bar made famous on television, here everybody seems to know your name – or, if you’re a newcomer, you’re as welcome as a regular and pretty soon you’ll be one. Boaters, hunters, local businessmen, farmers, women’s clubs, couples, singles – all crowd in at lunch or dinner to talk about what’s going on in the community, celebrate an occasion, renew old acquaintances. This is not a place for intimate conversation – joyous loud chatter is the music of Giusti’s. Noon or night, it is an ongoing neighborhood party, and you find yourself fitting right in. You’ll know you’ve achieved “regular” status when long-time waitress Sunny Gray greets you with a hug and a big smile. Once that happens, you’re a goner. Giusti’s is open every day but Monday, serving lunch and dinner. Cash or personal checks are accepted.
