RAUL’S STRIPER CAFE 210 Main Street, Rio Vista 707/374-4861 In the summer of 2007 Raul Rodriguez purchased the downtown staple, the Striper Café. After 16 years in the restaurant industry, mostly in the Suisun, Fairfield, Vacaville areas, Raul purchased the downtown restaurant and has been infusing his homemade goodness to the menu. Breakfast specialties include freshly made corned beef hash, a delicious Mexican-style chilaquiles, pork chops and eggs and chicken fried steak. Bring the kids, there’s even a children’s menu featuring smiley face pancakes! Lunch menu includes generous 1/3 lb. burgers and hot sandwiches including the “Rio Vista Chicken Burger” with chicken breast and cheese. Friday special: Clam chowder bread bowl! Banquet facilities available. Hours: Open daily for breakfast and lunch from 5:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Many would argue that Maria’s has the best salsa around. Maybe it’s the roasted peppers inside that gives it that smoky taste. Whatever they’re doing, they’re doing it right. Maria’s was also voted Best Mexican Food by the readers of the Delta Explorer. House specialties include Cochinita Pibil which is slow roasted pork with annchiote marinade. Also, their Chicken Besame Mucho is a broiled chicken breast covered with grilled onions, mushrooms, green tomatillo sauce and melted cheese. Open daily for lunch and dinner until 8 pm beer and wine. The atmosphere in this 100 year old building is very casual, but the huge TV and video arcade keep it modern as well. They have daily lunch and dinner specials, and I highly recommend trying their signature pizza - the “Humphrey Special.” To help those who cannot decide, each month they offer a unique Pizza of the Month special also. Pizza Factory is the perfect place for parties and celebrations, is open 7 days a week, and credit cards are always welcome. Great food, great people, great place. They toss ‘em, they’re awesome!
