Delta Explorer - Spring 2008 - (Page 6) spring cover contest winner Linda has been passionate about photography since high school. She joined the Stockton Camera Club about a year and a half ago after her photos were seen at the San Joaquin County Fair by other club members who invited her to join. After a year, she entered the Fair again and won Best of Show in 2007 with a photograph of a Passion Flower which was taken in her garden. “My love of gardening has expanded my love of photography and I am always taking nature and floral photos.” She raises a tropical flower called “Brugmansia” or “Angels Trumpet” and spends a lot of time photographing them. Another passion is her involvement with the Central California Laborador Retriever Rescue, where she takes unwanted Labs into her home while searching for loving, permanent homes for the dogs. She enjoys photographing the Labs that come through her home. Linda was also a photographer in Folsom this past Christmas for CCLRR taking photos of Santa and people's pets . Linda is a Home Health R.N. by profession, which was how she came to take this photo. When her work brings her to the Delta, she always brings along her camera. “It is such a beautiful place with a wonderful culture all of its own. The people are friendly and everyone seems to know everyone else.” Linda took the cover photo of the Ryde Hotel last spring on a beautiful day. “I could have spent hours there had I not been working.” linda braubitz from the publisher spring 2008 Spring is, without a doubt, my favorite time of the year in the Delta. The landscape is green, wildflowers are blooming, and the temperature is just right for me to get out my flip flops! Now that the weather is warming up, doesn’t it make you feel like venturing out to expore? Just to make it easy, we’ve compiled a list of 10 Things to do this Spring in the Delta (see page 42). Ten may not seem like a huge number, but you’ll see, those 10 suggestions are packed with fun! You may find that there are places you’ve been in the past, like the Rio Vista Museum or Locke, but it’s definitely time to visit again. The Rio Vista Museum is a true gem - so much local history, a broad variety of displays, and dedicated volunteers. Plan to spend a while. And Locke so many transformations going on! The State Park system is close to opening the doors of the renovated boarding house and there’s a new memorial to the Chinese who not only built Locke, but also contributed to the development of the entire Delta. I visited recently during the week (late morning) and if you enjoy photography, this is the time to go. You’ll have the street to yourself and you may even bump into famous Delta artists, like Chris Spencer, if you’re lucky. Spring exudes thoughts of nature and we’ve listed a number of great options: wildflower & nature walks, canoe tours, ecotour by boat, fishing, kiteboard watching (or participating) and sailing classes. Locals and visitors alike still find it hard to believe how many wineries there are in the Delta! Next time you’re in the mood for a little wine tasting, head to the Clarksburg area and support the local wineries who are producing superb wine right in our backyard! So, take this as a challenge of sorts yes, I will be that bold and call it a challenge. I would love to hear your adventures in the Delta. And if you’ve experienced something you feel other readers might enjoy as well, send in a suggested activity for the Summer edition. Until then, have a great spring, drive safely and support your local businesses.
