ANY OF US self-proclaimed "plant
killers" are leery of subjecting any
green thing to our care-especially
in a hectic retail setting. That is why
FlowerboxNature caught our eye at
the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in
New York. Beautiful, green plants covering an entire
wall-with no maintenance required. That means
no need to water them! Or move them to a sunny
spot! Or water them! (Apparently watering is a key
factor in proper plant maintenance...who knew?!)
The concept originated in France, and is inspired
by the vertical wall gardens of botanist Patrick Blanc.
Hackensack, N.J.-based FlowerboxNature creates
wonderful, lush plant installations using 100 percent
real plants that have been preserved using an ecofriendly process that replaces the plant's sap with a
stabilizing treatment based on natural glycerin, thus
"freezing" a plant in time, so it stays green, lush and
fresh for at least five years. Yes. FIVE YEARS!
Creations can be made in any size, from small
"Café" signs to complete wall units. Did we mention you don't have to water them?
