Annual Review 2007 - (Page 11) Keeping a Promise to the Community ents to Invest Westfield Delivers on Commitm in Retail Properties Dewberry team members, Ankur Patel, PE, Chris Peduzzi, PE, Peter Okafor, PE, and Jigar Bhatt, PE, enjoy the atmosphere of the new Westfield Annapolis Mall wing. Australia-based Westfield Group is one of the largest owners of retail property in the world, with more than 65 million square feet—housing more than 9,000 stores—in the United States alone. The company maintains ambitious goals for its properties, with a commitment to offering communities a diverse range of specialty stores, national retailers, and acclaimed restaurants. Dewberry has supported Westfield for many years through an array of surveying and site/civil engineering services for malls and shopping centers throughout the East Coast. In Maryland, current design work includes the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Montgomery County, where a major expansion and redevelopment is underway, as well as ongoing improvements to the Westfield Wheaton Mall. These projects follow the highly successful completion of Westfield Annapolis Mall, which unveiled a $160-million redevelopment in November 2007. More than 60 stores and nationally known restaurants opened within the expansion. The mall now employs more than 3,500 and is expected to generate $500 million in annual sales. • 300,000-square-foot mall expansion • Valet parking and 1,000 additional parking spaces • Enhanced pedestrian system and streetscape Westfield Annapolis now offers 1.5 million square feet of retail space following a major expansion and revitalization. According to Dewberry Project Manager Peter Okafor, PE, sequencing was key to minimizing the impact of construction on the stores and parking areas, which remained open throughout the project.
