Annual Review 2007 - (Page 13) Dr. Gary Trennepohl, president of Oklahoma State University’s Tulsa campus, calls the new Helmerich Advanced Technology Research Center (ATRC) “a symbol of our commitment to breakthrough technology and scientific advances.” Designed by PSA-Dewberry, the $43-million laboratory building opened in the fall of 2007 with a goal of facilitating research, attracting new industries, and fueling the regional economy. The Helmerich ATRC is envisioned as a major source of support to Oklahoma’s leading industries, including aviation/aerospace and energy. The building accommodates the work of up to 40 faculty and researchers and 100 graduate students, with a focus on composite and advanced materials science and energy technology. The center’s showcase environment includes specialized laboratories and conference facilities as well as cutting-edge works of art throughout the facility. The building is the third phase of development under PSA-Dewberry’s master plan for the campus, with the first two phases creating an awardwinning, four-building academic village. • 128,000-square-foot laboratory building • Support spaces include a clean room, image suite, offices, and a 7,000-square-foot atrium lobby • PSA-Dewberry provided architecture, interior design, structural engineering, and site/civil engineering ia and the onomy Transforming MaterWill ls…Advanced ResEcch and Regional Industries ear Support OSU’s Helmerich Center Major art pieces at the Helmerich ATRC include a stainless steel sculpture, a metal and glass mobile, and a granite waterwall. “We designed the public spaces to be open and inspirational,” says Vic Thompson, Associate AIA, PSA-Dewberry’s director of design for the project.
