BONHAM

Stepping back into the mists of time, Bonham offers much… from notorious gunslinger, John Wesley Hardin, to statesman and Speaker of the House, Sam Rayburn, to jazz guitar great, Charlie Christian. Bonham has “two centuries of Texas legends.” An easy hour drive from the Dallas Metroplex up Hwy. 121, you can shop for delightful antiques, visit charming boutiques and have a unique dining experience. Take a leisurely stroll among the beautiful restored buildings on our walkabout tour of this Texas Main Street City.

Discover fossils along the Sulphur River or up-close at the Fannin County Museum of History, located at the beautifully restored Texas and Pacific Depot. View the tribute to the fighting men of WWII who trained at Jones Field in Bonham, the centerpiece being a restored Fairchild Airplane. Experience pioneer living at Fort Inglish Village where frontier life of 1830 can be felt in this replica of Bonham’s early settlement. Next-door is the Sam Rayburn Library with its marvelous recreation of the Speaker of the House’s Office. On down Hwy. 56 the Sam Rayburn House is a moment frozen in time depicting the simple home life of the notable “Mr. Sam.” Drive our scenic lake trail or visit our five area lakes and sample some of Homestead Winery’s finest. DENISON

Denison is only an hour’s drive from the Metroplex and is the idea place for a weekend excursion.
