Jon Hughes, Race Director As president of event marketing and management international, Jon Hughes directs the overall marketing effort as well as operations and staff for his company, and has positioned the organization to offer the best in technology, marketing and management skills. Jon has been married to his wife and partner, Betsy, for 25 years and has a daughter, Emma, and a son, Christopher. Jon ran competitively in both high school and college. He has completed over a dozen marathons, including Boston, Berlin, Chicago and Marine Corps. Since the late 1970s, Jon has pioneered the organization of amateur athletic events, first in his home base of Central Florida and today throughout the world. He has been recognized for his outstanding leadership and organizational achievements by USA Track & Field, the Pan American Junior Games, the Governor of Florida, and the Grand Bahamas Promotions Board. Jon was one of the youngest inductees into the Florida Track & Field Hall of Fame, admitted in 1987 at the age of 29. In 1999, he was named Race Director of the Year. He is co-founder of the Walt Disney World Marathon and has been its director since it began in 1994. Today, Jon and Betsy’s company produces over 40 events a year. Sports Experience at Disney’s Wide World of Sports® Complex Breakfast: 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Dinner: 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Mickey’s Marathon Kids’ Fest and Mickey Mile Disney’s Wide World of Sports® Complex 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10 Half Marathon Race Retreat Epcot® Wonder Lot 3:00 a.m. – Open to runners only 5:30 a.m. – Open to friends and family 11:00 a.m. – Retreat closes Advanced registration required for all events except Disney’s Health & Fitness Expo.
