Nneoma has assisted in forming the organization. nEW yoRK Keren Tenenbaum engaged in the office’s first special education case through its New York signature project, access to education. Keren represented a 14-year-old boy whose school was not providing the special education teacher support services to which he was entitled. Keren was successful in having the school pay for her client to obtain private schooling. PHILADELPHIA eric Henry represented the legal guardian of a young woman whose mother had passed away, against the biological father who refused to pay court-ordered educational expenses. after a hearing, the court found in favor of eric’s client on all counts and denied the defendant’s requests to modify his obligations. The team also included Lauren Bishow, Nicole edwards, Tina Karkera, Kim Mautz and Liz Weill. BALTIMoRE William Mandycz and Brett Ingerman helped a senior citizen on a fixed income who was billed $750 for magazine subscriptions after being told that she was a finalist in a nationwide sweepstakes, even though she stated that she did not wish to make any purchases. after sending a letter of representation, the company not only cancelled the overdue account, but also gave her the periodicals for which she had been billed, free of charge. WASHInGTon, DC DLa Piper won a victory for a group of retired veterans at the armed Forces Retirement Home in an appeal before the US Court of appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The action seeks an injunction compelling the home to provide high-quality, on-site primary medical care. The appeals Court overturned the District Court’s ruling that the case should be dismissed. noRTHERn vIRGInIA Ki Kim and Mary ann DeCastro assisted a woman from Botswana who had been abused by her US citizen husband. They assisted with her VaWa application and I-485 application for Change to Permanent Resident Status, both of which have been granted. ATLAnTA DLa Piper represented the Make-a-Wish Foundation of georgia and alabama in negotiations for the lease of its new headquarters and for the construction and build-out of the space. Tracy Plott and amy Sullivan handled the lease negotiations, and Brian Fielden handled negotiations for the construction and build-out. RALEIGH Carrie Hartley and Laura Sirianni volunteered for the early morning shift at the Wake County Board of elections during the North Carolina primary, working with local officials to solve problems reported by poll monitors and voters as part of the firm’s ongoing work with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and the national election Protection coalition. TAMPA Kevin McCoy secured a jury verdict in favor of clients Mr. and Mrs. D. in a breach of contract action against a mobile home dealer whose actions had left them homeless.
