Counseling Points - November 2008 - (Page 3) welcome Dear Colleague, Welcome to the fourth issue of Counseling PointsTM for the infusion nurse, an official continuing education publication of the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) brought to you through an unrestricted educational grant from Roche. In this edition, we discuss the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic, systemic, inflammatory, destructive disorder that is associated with significant mortality, functional disability, and economic burden. We also provide information on the importance of initiating appropriate disease-modifying antirheumatic (DMARD) therapy, and on alternative treatments for RA patients who fail to respond to conventional DMARDs. INS is a membership organization representing the specialty practice of infusion nurses. INS fosters excellence in the domains of education, policy, practice, research, and organizational development, and influences these domains through developing and disseminating standards of practice, providing professional development opportunities and quality education, advancing best practice through evidence-based research, supporting professional certification, and advocating for the public. If you find this publication useful, I hope you will consider joining INS if you are not already a member. In doing so, you will be joining a premier group of nurses who are dedicated to advancing the delivery of quality therapies to enhance the health and well-being of patients. To learn more, please visit our website at www.ins1.org (where INS members can find a digital copy of this publication and take the posttest online; additionally, this program is available at www.counselingpoints.com).
