Legacy - Volume 3, Number 2 - (Page 5) banner of the Terminal Development Program, the airport is working through the planning and environmental process to expand the airport to accommodate the region’s rapidly growing demand for air travel. Building on the success of DMJM Harris’s accomplishments, the Authority called upon sister company DMJM Aviation to assist in implementing its expansion plans. “The on-call projects that DMJM Harris accomplished with the SDCRAA, coupled with DMJM Aviation’s nationally recognized talents in program and construction management, gave the Authority confidence in the decision to bring in DMJM Aviation for support in turning its plans into reality,” says Michael Gasparro, P DMJM .E., Aviation’s west coast aviation manager. As a part of the SDCRAA team, DMJM Aviation is helping SDCRAA undertake numerous projects, from runway repaving to landfill cleanups to planning for its 10-gate terminal expansion, currently under environmental review. The expanded facility will enable the airport to accommodate the region’s rapidly rising air passenger load—expected to grow to 22.8 million per year by 2015. According to Tom Mertens, P DMJM Aviation’s project manager, the team .E., approach is key to the project’s success. DMJM Aviation provides SDCRAA with a myriad of experts, placing the skills of AECOM sister companies Metcalf & Eddy, ENSR and DMJM H&N at its fingertips. Through AECOM’s resources, SDCRAA is able to mobilize essential expertise to lay the foundation for its expansion plans and keep the airport functioning, while implementing its capital improvement projects. “DMJM Aviation is a strong addition to SDCRAA and its highly knowledgeable staff,” roadway and site design services for this designsays Mertens. “The firm and its AECOM sister companies will work to enhance the availability of skills needed to contribute to this airport’s success.” Design-Build in San José DMJM Harris is providing essential services for another successful airport project in San José, where construction is in full swing on the Mineta San José International Airport Terminal Area Improvement Program (TAIP). Led by project manager Catherine McMullen, build project in the heart of the Silicon Valley. DMJM Harris’s scope of services encompasses a new circulating roadway system with up to nine lanes and two bridges and new site utilities, including main power, natural gas, water, reclaimed water, storm and sanitary sewer systems, and connections to new and expanded terminals. The firm is also responsible for laying out aircraft parking positions for the entire airport, and for design of apron paving and striping.
