(50) You know what a magneto is. (51) You own a bike with a magneto. (52) You know what Autolube and Posiforce mean. (53) You know which bike came with which system. (54) You know how to adjust the oil pump on either system. (55) You remember when a Bridgestone came with two Bridgestones. (56) You remember when a Bridgestone GTR was one of the fastest street bikes on the planet. (57) You went out and bought one because it had Rotary valves. (58) You bought an H1 Kawasaki instead because it didn’t. (But it had one extra cylinder and an extra 150cc’s.) (59) The H1 was too slow so you traded it in on an H2. (60) The H2 was too slow, too noisy and too loud so you bought a Z1. (61) You couldn’t afford any of the big bikes so you bought a 350 Avenger. (62) You couldn’t afford a BSA so you bought a Kawasaki W1. (63) You couldn’t believe Suzuki could build a 500cc two-stroke twin. (64) You couldn’t believe they’d trump that with a water-cooled 750cc triple. (65) You installed a Windjammer Fairing and Shoei saddlebags on your new Water Buffalo to make it an even better touring bike. (66) You were dazzled by the new 1000cc GoldWing but thought it was just too big and heavy. (67) You bought a new Triumph Bonneville because it was the fastest thing on two wheels. BENCH RACING going to be the next big thing. (85) You bought a trials bike, or better yet, a Japanese trials bike. (86) You owned a Bell “stroker cap.” (87) You remember when parts guys used paper catalogs to look everything up. (88) You dealt with a shop where the owner kept all the receipts in a cigar box. (89) You walked into a Honda shop and the biggest bike they had was a 305cc CB77. (90) You went down to the local Yamaha shop to look at the new XS650 (91) You thought CZ’s were great race bikes but that JAWA street bikes were just too weird. (92) You rode an Indian because the only other choice was an HD. (93) You remember when non-unit construction was the norm. (94) You remember when a GoldWing was a naked bike. (95) You remember when leather jackets were black and helmets were white. (96) You remember when the only bike that came from the factory with a windshield and bags was the Electra-Glide. (97) You remember when everyone at the local motorcycle shop owned and rode a motorcycle. (98) You remember when British bikes shifted on the right. (99) You remember when metric wrenches were hard to find. (100) You remember that indescribable combination of fear, anticipation and joy that permeated your whole body the first time you rode a motorcycle. (68) Ditto but it was a Sportster. (69) You smoked your two buddies new bikes with your new Norton Commando. (70) You got beat bad, by that kid on his Z1 so you installed an 850 Dunstall kit in your Commando. (71) You blew the Commando to smithereens and bought an R90S. (72) You remember when the AMA had the 500 OHV, 750 Flat head rule. (73) You can remember when dirt track bikes didn’t have any brakes. (74) You remember when some kid named Roberts came along and put the hurt on all of them. (75) You remember when HarleyDavidson shops carried twostroke oil. (76) You remember when HarleyDavidson sold two-stroke motorcycles. (77) You remember when HarleyDavidson didn’t sell T-shirts. (78) You remember BUCO bags. (79) You owned a Mustang motorcycle, that you bought new or slightly used with money you earned after school. (80) You owned a Cushman (and ditto on the finances). (81) You wanted a Rupp Black Widow, or any Rupp for that matter but your parents wouldn’t go for it. (82) You remember when the Yamaha GT1 and Honda minis were released. (83) You remember the "less sound = more ground" campaign.
